I love the nightlife

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Please don’t talk about love tonight.
Please don’t talk about sweet love.
Please don’t talk about being true
and all the trouble we’ve been through.
Ah, please don’t talk about all of the plans
we had for fixin’ this broken romance.
I want to go where the people dance.
I want some action … I want to live!

Action … I got so much to give.
I want to give it. I want to get some too.

Oh, I … Ohhh I … I love the nightlife,
I got to boogie on the disco ’round, oh yea.
Oh, I love the night life,
I got to boogie on the disco ’round, oh yea.

You, rare as Georgia
snow. Falling

hard. quick.
Candle shadow.

The cold
spell that catches

us by surprise.
The too-early blooms,

tricked, gardenias blown about,
circling wind. Green figs.

Nothing stays. I want
to watch you walk

the hall to the cold tile

night, a lifetime.

The Negligence of Junctures

I waited.

for you

for me

and I’m not selfish

see my mind was on giving

… I didn’t want nothing to show for it

not a certificate

or plaque

Not even my name in the Sunday paper

Just you

and I was going to be fine

I even robbed time

of a few extra hours

to make room for you in my day

thought you was worth making me a thief

Animal Sheltar

He’s like a mangy mutt that comes around

begging at my back door

always asking for something:

a belly rub

scraps of leftover love

a back rub

I want to tell him “GET!”

instead I leave food by the porch

watch him feed behind the screen door

Sometimes my fingers flex-

They want to rub him

take him in

make him mine.

A Tribute Piece

Land of the rising sun/ There will be tomorrows/ Your fallen souls/ Translucent pearls on the right arm of buddha/Deem it Shinto/ Deem it Shinto/Call it Ascension/Ripples/It is here, yes here we felt you bleed/ We heard your release/ More than a stone’s throw/ The water bore our reflections too./ You were proud/ They said you were warriors/ That your people were samurai/and the world felt shamed by your silent grace because there is something to be said for dignity.

Falling[a love poem]

I found a love supreme when the creator gave me breath for being/ Now I am a life force/  I fell in love with living/ I fell in love with the light/ The not Mr. Right/ the 1/4s & not as whole/ And we broke the mold and defined a love our own/ I fell in love with purity— the children/ The loss of my own innocence/ I fell in love with my faith,  my hopes, & my dreams/ I shattered into millions of pieces and then I/ I gave my heart to  family/  I gave my trust to friends/  I found myself… the one no one sees/  And I fell in love with me/ I fell in love with my insecurities and my ego/ I fell in love with my success and my failures in the past/  I fell in love with my laughter & my tears/ I fell in place, in the puzzle, in music, in words, and 365 got me here.
