Born Erica Wright in Dallas in 1971, Badu attended a school of the arts and was working as a teacher and part-time singer in her hometown when she opened for D’Angelo at a 1994 show. D’Angelo’s manager, Kedar Massenburg, was impressed with the performance and hooked her up with the singer to record a cover of the Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell duet “Precious Love.” He also signed Badu to his recently formed Kedar Entertainment. The rest, is as we say, “History”
So from one Hump Day to Another June 23, 2010 can not get here any sooner. This show promises to blow soul cats away! I am sure it was created for griots, poets, painters, hip hop, b boys & girls, and musicians. The rest of you fans should thank us by purchasing a ticket to support good artistry. Unfortunately, we live in a space where the Ke$shas dominate the market. How? I do not know but I have decided to not follow through with my plan to “silence” people who buy wack music. Ms. Badu will have Janelle Monae & J*Davey opening for her. Let me tell you a little secret, anytime the people opening for you could do their own thing, sh*t is going to go h.a.m. and I will be there to watch!!! If you are in the Phoenix area, bring your ass and cash and come down… or at least go buy the new cd, it’s delish.
